Birthday Weekend

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!"

It was a great weekend here at the Lilypad. Since Zoe and I both celebrated birthdays, it was just one bit of excitement after another.

Zoe did Special Things: She sat in Her Chalet, She ate lots of Yummy Salad, She laid around in the Beautiful Sunshine, She played with her new friend, Miss Blueberry. She ate a Willow Ball.

Wait. That sounds pretty much like what She does everyday!

Strangely enough (or, maybe not strangely at all), I had the same experience as Miss Zoe.

No, I don't mean that I ate a Willow Ball.

What I mean is, that as the Chick and I were sitting at lunch on Saturday discussing what we might like to do, since we had rented a car for a couple of days and could do whatever we wanted with no thoughts of how we would get there or how we would get home, I said to her, "You know, the thing is that it's hard to come up with something to do that is really special in a different way. We do special things ALL THE TIME! We have fun ALL THE TIME! What can we possibly do that will top what we do on a regular basis?"

I might not have said those exact words, but I did relay that sentiment.

What a wonderful thing to realize. That Everyday is Already Special. That Special is not reserved for certain days or certain times of the year. In our life here at the Lilypad, Everyday is just FUN!

On a regular basis, we spend time with Good Friends. We go to Live Music, which we love. We eat Delicious Food. We spend time with Each Other and (usually) Delightful Companion Animals.

Everyday is a Celebration of Life.

OK, once in while it doesn't feel that way. Once in awhile the Chick is grouchy (I am never grouchy, of course), or I am stressed about work, or one of us feels down or sad. But these days are few, and they actually get rarer and rarer all the time.

What a great Birthday Present it was to have that realization!

"I don't care for gifts of Realization.
Pass the Willow Balls."

What's on Your Birthday List this year?

Will it include Realizations or Willow Balls?

Well, technically either one is probably good, depending on who you are, right?

Right.

Happy birthday to you both! And I'm so glad you worked out that life is pretty darn special most of the time. I hope at least you had some birthday cake while Zoe had willow balls? Just a little piece? ;)

Good for YOU! Good for Zoe! The realization that life is special each and every day is very special. Not many people have that unique perspective.

Thanks for sharing.
