Our friend from our writing group, to whom the Chick refers to as Dr. Captain America, got a new friend for his recent birthday. He wrote a bit about his birthday in this particular blog post.
But, you know, as special as his birthday already was, he didn't know it would be THIS SPECIAL!
You see, his family planned a bit of a Surprise on his birthday.
A Suprise with Long Ears.
This kind of Surprise:
INTRODUCING......CHESTER!!!!!
Mr. Chester is a temporary guest here at the Lilypad, and MY GOODNESS!! We are SO LUCKY to have him here. We are a BB&B! Except we serve more than breakfast!
Chester's wonderful family will embark on a week long vacation tomorrow, and I can't even believe how much they are going to miss him. I told them when they left that there would be a Chester movie today. But the thing about Chester is that he would barely stand still for pictures, let alone be slow enough for a movie. A movie will come forth soon, I assure you. But for now, you will have to make due with some very cute pictures.
Here he is showing off an extremely handsome ear:
I guess I've come to the end of my tail. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
MOVIES TO COME!! STAY TUNED!!!
And to Chester's wonderful family: SAFE TRAVELS AND A HAPPY VACATION!
Miss Blueberry was recently asked to go on tour to the Library for storyime. Months ago, I agreed to it, but as soon as I did, I was struck with a bit of panic.
Blueberry seems to like people, but She doesn't get a lot of visits from kids....what if She hated children?
Blueberry is a bit of a quieter personality....what if all the attention and the bright lights and the ride in the car and the different people and smells, etc. were too much for Her?
Well, I had my doubts, but then I would tell myself this: She is a Happy Bunny. She will be fine. I will see what She is comfortable with, and we will go from there.
Pretty soon, Her Day of Reckoning had arrived! There was no more second guessing! The show had to GO ON!!!
Here, then, is the evidence of Miss Blueberry's Library Storytime Debut!
As you can see, She was a bit of a ROCK STAR. The kids all gathered round. Blueberry was perfectly behaved and not in the least overstimulated (though I can't say the same for myself). She handled Herself with decorum and grace. All the kids in the room got to hold Her on their laps.
In short, She was a hit.
So, where's the Next stop on Blueberry: The Live Tour? We shall see.....
Last weekend would have been Zoe's birthday. It was my birthday, too. We shared the day.
Next week, I will write about the present I got, which was Very Exciting Indeed. But for now, I would like to focus on a Certain Rabbit.
The point of focusing on a Certain Rabbit is to let you know that She is Still Watching You. Lest you should forget. Her Watchful Eye is Always Upon You.
Not in a scary Lord of the Rings way.
Well, maybe a little.
Not if you are behaving, though. If you are behaving, Her Eye is on you in a Loving and Watchful way.
Otherwise...... Well...... Ahem.
Only you know for sure. In any case, Miss Zoe remains watchful, and that is the point of today's Movie.
Elizabeth has lived here for almost two months now. I thought I should write a wee update about Her progress.
"TWO MONTHS?? REALLY??"
First let me say this: She is Big. Like, bigger than you would think when you hear the words "Baby Rabbit." She is really the same size as Zoe was as a full grown Bunny. And She is not even six months old yet. Let me be the first to say: EEK.
Second, She has a Super Long Tail. Before I knew Rabbits personally, I always pictured Rabbit Tails as kind of short and small and cotton bally. But Elizabeth's tail is long, as was Zoe's before Her.
A very loooooooong tail.
A long tail, indeed.
Some other updates are as follows:
1. She likes ALL SALAD FOODS now:
2. She has figured out that She can squeeze through the Rabbit Gate to make Her way down the hall.
Who? ME?
3. She has pretty much decided that rolling is about the Best Thing Ever. She rolls well and often. I promise to get a video of this ASAP. She rolls onto Her back, arms in the air, and just lays there.
4. She loves cat toys! Like, LOVES THEM. Especially balls with bells in them.
And that, my friends, is the Wednesday Baby Rabbit Update.
Carry on with your day, and carry the knowledge of Elizabeth with you.
That's right. It's time for an Elizabeth Movie. I don't think She's been in the spotlight nearly enough. She agrees with that sentiment wholeheartedly.
I usually make the Rabbit Movies during the day. Well, that just makes sense, doesn't it, to make movies (or hay) while the sun shines? But the Winter can present a problem in terms of lighting.
On this particular project, Our Little Elizabeth brought in an assistant. Namely, the Chick. With a flashlight. We shall call it...a SPOTLIGHT! A spotlight on our New Little Star.
It's very Film Noir. Prepare yourself for the Magic. It's Rabbit Magic, Baby.
We all know that without ZOE, there would be no Flip Friday. And just because ZOE is at Sparkle Pond it doesn't mean that She is any less important to the Flip Friday Film Making Process process.
In fact, as a Resident of Sparkle Pond, She has Complete Creative Control now.
Complete Creative Control.
Got it?
We here at the Lilypad have decided to rename Flip Friday to add "ZOE PRESENTS: Flip Friday." It's a more accurate depiction of what is really going on that way, don't you think?
This week, we have for you a Rabbit Movie. Miss Blueberry stars in Her Very First Solo Role. Well, that's not entirely true, I guess, as She did have Her own Digging Movie a while back. Today's Solo Role is as the Lilypad's only Currently Corporeal Rabbit, and that is Something.
I must say one more thing, and that is that I use the term "Movie" rather loosely here, as Miss Blueberry is, ummmmm......not so much Move-ing as Rest-ing. We could call it a Rest-ie.
On Tuesday, December 14th at around 8:30 PM, Miss Zoe, Bunny of my Heart and Soul, left this world to go to Sparkle Pond. We were holding Her and were with Her every second.
It's a little too hard to write much more than that right now, so I'm not going to try.
Just know this: Zoe will never be gone. Those of you who loved Her know that She will live forever. She will always be in charge of you. She will always be telling you what to do and what to think.
And, She will never stop teaching you about Love and the Power of Love. She was Love in a Rabbit Shape. Fuzzy Love. Velvet Love. Pure, Unconditional Love.
If you would like to do something in Her memory, please donate to her favorite charity,
Last week, Flip Friday was delayed until Cinematic Saturday.
That was because of Vimeo being a little crazy and not uploading my video. But you know, then I wondered if maybe it was because the video wasn't JUST RIGHT! Because, truthfully, it wasn't up to our normal Rabbit Standards.
Was it?
I mean, we tried to film Blueberry digging to China. And instead, she might have gotten to West Virginia, but that's about all. It was definitely cute, but it was not the video footage we were hoping for. It was where Blueberry asserted that She is not a circus animal. And, She is not.
But, this week? She is going to China!
Let's Watch (p.s. We were still having trouble with Vimeo, so we went back to YouTube for this week's movie. We have to get these Rabbit Movies out there in whatever ways are necessary!!):
And, you will be pleased to know that she is a HAM! She loves to have her picture taken. She loves to be in movies. She has not been here yet a week, and this is already what we know.
So far, Daisy spends her days in the Rabbit Room. She sleeps in their window. She looks around. She sniffs her bunnies. She cleans her bunnies.
In her movie debut, then, please welcome DAISY, the Lilypad's FRESHEST CAT!!!
Well, as always, it's been an exciting week at the Lilypad.
Last week, a Fresh Rabbit.
This week a Fresh car named Seven.
(By the way, for those of you who wondered about Seven's name, she is named after the Star Trek Voyager character, Seven of Nine. Seven of Nine was once part of the Borg Collective, but she becomes disassociated from the Borg and begins to rediscover her humanity through a variety of means. We chose this name for a few reasons:
1. Because we are obviously major geeks
2. Because we want to maintain the mix of machine with humanity, meaning, we want to be resposible stewards in our car ownership
3. Because Seven's awesome green color is called "Alien." How could we NOT choose a Star Trek related moniker?)
Anyhow, Fresh Rabbit. Fresh car.
With all of this Fresh stuff, the Mini Cat wanted to remind you that it wasn't that long ago that he was still fresh, and that, well...he IS still fresh. Because of that, he wanted his own movie.
And, then, of course, because it is Flip Friday, there MUST be a Rabbit Movie. Miss Blueberry was sleeping during movie making time and chose to let Miss Zoe, Resident Rabbit Superstar, star alone in this week's movie.
Zoe was, of course, happy to do this, though being a Good Sister, She did at least try to share the Responsibility.
You may recognize a certain cat making a cameo appearance at the beginning of the Rabbit Movie. Zoe would like you to ignore that part of the movie if you could, please.
Zoe is back from Her vacation, and that means YOU can relax and breathe a sigh of relief!!
Your work week is almost over!
Your tests at school (special shout out to Ashlyn!) are ALMOST OVER!
And now, all you need to do is watch the Friday Rabbit Movie and ride that good feeling for the rest of your day. You can ride it right through Friday and crash it into the weekend if you want to.
Yes, you can!
Today's video features a time signature that Miss Zoe likes to chew in. Finding music She likes to chew to can be a challenge! It often ends up being punk, but sometimes, it is jazz that fills the bill.
I have a few things to say about the phenomenon of Bunny Hypnosis.
After Monday's post, in which (random human things happened and) a Bunny Got Hypnotized, there were a few comments about Hypnosis relating to Yours Truly.
That's right. I mean, Myself. Herself. The Zoe.
Be that as it may, I wanted to point out that I do not believe in Bunny Hypnosis.
Sure, it is all well and good for.... some bunnies....but let me assure you, in a house where things such as these exist (see below)...
The aforementioned "these"
...a Bunny must be Vigilant.
A Bunny must never be Caught Unawares.
It is completely Un-Bunny like to be anything but vigilant. It goes against the Bunny Constitution. It goes against the very fabric of the Bunny Way of Life.
Let me offer this example. Due to the Mini Cat still being Mini, my human caretakers have constructed a gating system to Keep Him OUT! Oh, it's true that at times he is unobtrusive, but those times are few and far between.
Even a complex gating system, however, does not keep Certain Animals from entering the room. I can be leisurely enjoying my salad, minding my Own Business, when suddenly, the gap between the top gate and the top of the doorway goes from looking like this:
(Another contribution to this blog from our Zoe the Rabbit.)
They are making me write this again. Something about Mama #1's grandpa possibly transitioning to his Sparkle Suit and so Mama #1 is sad. Sparkle suits are pretty and sometimes skin and fur suits just get so worn out.
That's all the Wisdom I have to share today, so onto something a bit lighter.
Onto Presents for This Rabbit!!
I love getting gifts, and it's appropriate that I get them. I am Beautiful, for example, so I should be showered with lovely things whenever possible.
A while ago -- and I've been a bit rude and have waited far too long to write about this -- a while ago, I got yet another box in the mail.
There was some stuff in it that seemed to have very little to do with me, so I shared with Mama #1.
Hint for Other Rabbits: Once in a while, it's a good idea to give your Servant, I mean, Mama a little something so that she feels appreciated for all the chores, I mean, love that she gives.
But then there were these and they are so obviously for me -- what with the Little Bunnies all over them! (We will forgive the lack of detail and try to appreciate the "artistry" of the prints.)
And though this is a little big (shhhh...don't tell), I still think I look Really Good:
I checked this hat out thoroughly and it is well constructed:
I put it through the rigorous and famous Rabbit Nail & Tooth Test and it passed:
Oh! And we also got one of these, though again, it's a little big for our Small and Delicate Head. It also seems that, not a surprise, the Rabbit fabric we got on ours is not available. I mean, duh! It probably sold out in, like, minutes.
That's all I have for today. I am quite busy right now with all the kissing and cuddling of Mama #1. I do really like her and want to do all I can to make her feel better. Mostly, I just stand there looking like cute little Me. That seems to do Wonders.
I mean, week after week after week-- RABBIT MOVIES!!!
You can be honest. Zoe is not paying attention. She just got fresh hay.
You can think it over and send a secret, coded message. Be careful not to implicate yourself, though. Try and get some unsuspecting person to deliver the news for you, if you can. Think about the most unsuspecting person you know. That person will be your messenger.
Poor messenger.
For those of you NOT tired of the Rabbit movies (Shhhh....Miss Zoe's out of the hay and hopping over!!!), which would be ALL OF YOU who are NOT TIRED OF RABBIT MOVIES, here is this week's WONDERFUL FANTABULOUSLY SPECTACULAR......
LAPIN CINEMATIQUE! (or something like that. I took Spanish. Lo siento!)
Are you wondering what was good about Zoe's weekend?
Well? Zoe had a hard week. You can see from these pictures how She was forced to go up the stairs.
She needed some rest.
So, while Zoe rested, the Chick and I had a really busy Saturday. In the morning, we got Rosie the Awesome Cat some baby food. That's what she's onto now. Other food doesn't sound so good. What sounds good to her is baby food, as fed to her on our fingers and hands.
Totally fine. She is our Little Princess. Then, we tried out a new Vegetarian/ vegan cafe in town called The Singing Bowl. YUM! I had the BLT with tempeh bacon, which was completely delish. We also stopped at the discount dance supply tore nearby to get the Chick some shoes for ballroom dancing. That was a great success!
Later in the day, we had a friend over to discuss a Tarot Party that we're going to host for her. That was fun, and we got lots of planning done.
Zoe continued to rest on Sunday, while I painted. Here's some stuff I worked on:
The Chick with Toby
Self Portrait with Zoe
What did you do over the weekend?
Certainly you didn't work as hard as a Bunny all week. We're not sure if you deserve rest.
Face it-- you will NEVER work as hard as a Bunny. NEVER!
I was dismayed to realize last week, after I had already posted some kind of message about the New Year or some such, that I DID NOT POST A RABBIT MOVIE!!!!
(I would appreciate if this stay our little secret. I don't think that Zoe noticed, and I'd like to keep it that way. Are you cool with that?)
Anyhow, time to get back to the movies.
Right?
RIGHT!!
First, a movie from the Lilypad's New Orange Star!
