The Whats?

Blueberry here again.  First, I still have not seen hide nor hair (pun!) of Zoe...

Second, Mama #1, the one who Deserted Us (or I should say, "Me") on Tuesday, had a horrible travel day (with which I had nothing to do whatsoever...cough).

Speaking of Mama #1, what is with Mama #2...I mean, I don't think that's a very...nice name.  It's a bit...potty, wouldn't you say?

But I digress.

Mama #1 had a horrible travel day with all sorts of diverted planes and missed planes and simply plain planes (come on! no wi-fi except in first class!?!? who ARE these people that run airlines?!).

Yet she managed to send us some photos over which we are meant to fawn, I suppose.

Here is a picture of, I think she said "Alps," which just sorta sounds like some dog food, and as a flat-lander, Great Lakes sort of Rabbit, who prefers a lot green stuff, I am not impressed, but oh, well, excuse my yawning!

She got this shot from inside that very plain plane.  She must have been rather bored and there must not have been any Rabbits anywhere!  As I am known to say: What the!?!?

Flip (Holiday) Friday

Here's hoping that all of you out there who celebrate Thanksgiving had a wonderful time!!

Well, some of us do.

Here at the Lilypad, we had lots of food, plenty of good cheer, and plenty of laughing, dancing smiling, and snuggling, plus all of the other wonderful things that come with a fun holiday where you get to lounge around in your comfortable clothes (and the CUTEST APRON EVER!!) and cook and bake and just be generally thankful for all the LOVE and GOOD THINGS in your life.

Miss Emmie waits patiently for you to
drop something she might want to eat.
I love Thanksgiving!!

In between baking and cooking and gazing lovingly at the Chick while she played on her computer (OK, she did do other things-- I'm just whining for attention from her!), I did some sudoku puzzles, snuggled my bunny, took tons of cat portraits (some of which you see in this post) and just had fun. Later on, we had some delightful company.

Scottie doesn't really care what you drop.
At least, not right now.

What a nice day! And it's only the beginning of a lovely weekend. Who knows what will happen next?

Miss Lilly just wants you to stop
staring at her intense cuteness.
Please.

And then she does something even cuter! Curses!

Rosie and me having a Kodak moment.

Me in my cute apron
holding an open squash that
could have been a
Georgia O'Keefe model.

Did you think I would forget your Rabbit Movie???

Yes, don't forget the Rabbit Movie.

Cinematic Saturday

The Management apologizes for the Rabbit Movie/ Flip Friday delay.

Again.

As you know, a lot is going on here at the Lilypad. My last post elicited some lovely suggestions for setting myself straight. I will be exploring those options of massage, reiki, shamanistic pursuits, petting animals, exercise, just being outside, etc. over the weeks to come.

Thank you for your Support and your Ideas and your Caring Spirits.

As you may recall, my asking you for help came about (in large part) because-- due to the shortage of Toys and Willow Balls-- Miss Zoe was not so helpful.

She was holding out. And She made that apparent in a blog post a few days back.

Then, the other day, I got home from work, and what was waiting?

A package delivered by Mailman Rick.

"A package from who? For Whom?" you ask.

Who do you think?

It came from an Organization you may (or may not) have heard of:

People Against Rabbit Atrocities?
Have you heard of them?

Also enclosed was this card:

Terrible, Tragic No- Toy Conditions???

I swear, The Rabbit exaggerates.

Nevertheless, we opened this Lovely Box from Kavindra/ Lisa and her Cat Miss Lucy, and what was inside???

Let us show you...

Zoe's Surprise in the Mail from marcy hall on Vimeo.

By the way, Kavindra and Miss Lucy, Zoe's Membership Form and Annual Dues are in the mail.

She'd like to become a card carrying member of any group against Rabbit Atrocities.

Thank you!!!!! We appreciated your Surprise!!!!!!!

It's Only a Harvest Moon

Can it really be that the Harvest Moon will appear this Friday?

Really?

Well, as I mentioned before, those of us in the Lilypad are actually looking forward to the coming Fall and Winter Seasons. We enjoy the hibernation aspect. We also like the feeling of the school year.

The coming Fall and the Harvest Moon always bring to mind thoughts of Holidays.

In this house, we have many Fall and Winter Holidays-- Cat Birthdays, Blisschick's Birthday, our Anniversary, various other Personal Milestone Holidays, and then of course the usual-- Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Oh, and Veteran's Day.

Wait! Did I forget something? Could it be....

HALLOWEEN????

Halloween is a treat (pun intended) in our neighborhood. We get hundreds of kids every year-- superheroes, farm animals, ninjas, witches, as well as about 50 kids wearing the mask from the Scream movies.

And, of course there's always a few adults with baby strollers collecting candy "for the baby" who clearly has no teeth and is asleep in the stroller. Whatever.

Yesterday, I started thinking through what I might be for Halloween. One year I was a Tree. One year I was Winnie the Pooh. Another year, I was a Daisy.

The Daisy really scared some children. That was a surprise. A pleasant surprise.

Miss Emmie walked by the writing room, and I called out to her, "Miss Emmie, what will you be for Halloween this year?"

She considered this for a moment. "A Bloody Halloween Cat Massacre," she responded. "Or, maybe a Princess."

I shrugged. The Cat Massacre wasn't much of a stretch for poor Miss Emmie (whose tail has been following her everywhere lately and sometimes needs to be "disciplined").

Rosie walked by. "Rosie," I asked. "How about you? What will you be for Halloween?"

"That's ridiculous," she said. "I am what I am. A Princess, of course."

I was beginning to sense a theme here.

The Blisschick ran up the stairs chasing Lilly. As they tumbled down the hall, I asked them my question.

"We're going to wear our Pink Feather Boa and our Jewelry Crown this year," said the Blisschick. "Why?" They continued down the hall.

"No reason," I replied. "Just curious." More Princesses.

I turned to Zoe.

"Don't even ask," She said. "I think you know the answer, don't you?"

I did.

5 Princesses. All in one house? What was this-- the Magic Kingdom?

When I asked Scottie, all he could do was roll his eyes. Then, he sneezed and made his way down to the couch for a bath.

I'm still not sure what I'm going to be for Halloween. But I guess there's not much room for another Princess.

Perhaps, I'll just be a Frog.

How about you?

Raise your hand if you LOVE bunnies!!

(Are your hands in the air? I thought so.)

Yesterday, Zoe got mail.

This particular mail was from Her friend, Derby, who lives with the Very Cool Carly (a.k.a Ketzirah, a Priestess, M’agelet, Artist, and Guide--check out her amazing site!) and Art (An extremely talented Woodworker and Furniture maker-- check out his site, too!!) Derby is also an Urban Rabbit who (obviously) enjoys the Finer Things in Life. He and Zoe have much in common as you can imagine.

Miss Zoe gets quite excitable when mail comes for Her. When I saw the postcard with her name on it, I ran up the stairs and yelled out to the Blisschick: "MailmanRickcameandMissZoegotmail!!!!"

Just like that. All in one word.

Miss Zoe, intrigued by the ruckus, hopped to the gate. She looked from side to side. Then, she hopped back to her Chalet.

One doesn't want to let on that excitement is being experienced. Especially if One is a Rabbit.

Please, let me now unfold for you the Anatomy of Rabbit Excitement:

The Snub:
It says, "I don't see that.
And, if I do, I am totally uninterested."

The Sniff:
It says, "This doesn't look edible.
But, just in case..."

The Roll:
It says, "YAY!! Derby wrote, and
I just can't contain myself."
(Sorry about the blur. Action shot, you know.)

The Cool Recovery:
It says, "Excitement? I know
not of what you speak.
Silly human!"

and finally

The Ignore:
It says...well... I think you know what it says.

And, there you have it. For those of you who aren't too familiar with Rabbits, I hope you found this primer to be a helpful one.

For those of you already familiar with Rabbits, I hope this reminds you, simply, of your Insignificance.

Thanks again to the Very Handsome Derby for making Miss Zoe ROLL!!!

The Problem With Dogs

A Disclaimer: Before I start, let me just say, the above title may be misleading. I, personally, have no problem with dogs. However, I cannot speak for any rabbits or cats who may or may not be in the room, and who may or may not approve (to use Cinnamon's word) of dogs.

That being said, I would like to clarify that my problem with dogs is simply that painting them and drawing them can rather stymie me.

I love dogs. Big, small, whatever.

The thing is, I've never had a dog.

I did once exist in the same space with a dog, I think, when I was first born. I seem to recall seeing some pictures of me as a very cute (of course!) baby pulling all the canned goods out of the cupboard to build a fort, and there in the background of the picture is a black dog.

But, it was so early on that my psyche has no recollection of ever "having a dog."

Baby Yard Rabbit is fine with no dog!

Baby Rabbit update:
Baby Rabbit is growing and doing fine.
Liking the dogless yard.

Someday, I hope to maybe have a dog. Who knows?

But, presently dogless, here's the problem for me: Not having had a dog makes it challenging to draw and paint them. It's as if I don't know their ins and outs, you know?

A cat? Easy. I have had so many cats in my life that I could draw their sweet little faces in my sleep.

A rabbit? Now that I've had Miss Zoe for 5 years and have spent hours of each and every one of those wonderful days of those years playing with her and staring at her cute face and body while she does, well-- everything, the same thing goes for rabbits. Could draw them in my sleep.

Me with the Sweet Miss Zoe.

Look at Miss Emmie's sweet Cat Face!

I say all this ("There," you're thinking. "She's FINALLY getting to the point!") because I recently got a commission to paint a dog, and every time I get a commission to paint a dog, it's the same. It's as though my muscles have forgotten the dog shape. Their eyes, their noses. I have to relearn it every time.

For this one commission, I have gone through, like, a dozen incarnations of the dog's face, trying to get it right, trying to get the eyes just right.

You have to get the eyes right.

Anyhow, just thought I'd share my recent art trials and tribulations. If you dog people out there have any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them. What makes a dog face a dog face?

That last sentence made Miss Zoe laugh. She is rolling around on the floor saying "Dog Face! Ha, ha, ha!" right now. Funny bunny.

Miss Zoe is not at all interested in hearing your dog comments, so send those to me.

When I do finally get that dog done, I'll post a picture. Hopefully, that will be soon.

Also coming soon: The Wee!Art Contest Winners.

Look! It's new!

So, I came home from work yesterday, and Blisschick was giddy with excitement.

"I have a su-pri-ise," she sang as I walked in the door.

Then she added, "It's for you AND Zoe!"

I wondered what it could be. It was just my birthday last week, so I didn't think it was another present.

I do know that I have a new black, and therefore more formal, Disapproving Rabbits T-shirt on the way, so I thought it might be that (here's a link to the official disapproving rabbits mugs, as I think they are revamping the T-shirt right now).

No. It wasn't that.

Blisschick scurried up the stairs. I followed.

"Grab your rabbit," she giggled as we got to the top of the stairs.

I went into Zoe's room. It was time for her crunch, so she wasn't especially thrilled about being picked up or about leaving the room. But, she snuggled in for the ride to the next room anyhow.

"Are you seriously going to pick me up
and carry me around
when it's time for my luscious dinner?
Really?" (Sigh.)

Yes, Zoe, I really did pick you up.

So, what was Blisschick on about?

My new banner!! SMILE!!

While I was away at work, one of the many things she did was revamp the banner at the top of my blog to feature the unequaled and always fashionable Miss Zoe! It was the coolest surprise after a taxing day.

Thanks, Blisschick!! You are awesome!!!

This weekend, I will return the favor by helping her put together her new, magical apple green desk. A fair exchange, I think.

Also, in response to some of the wonderful ideas many of you sent in about new milagros, Zoe and I will be working on some new pendants.

Tune in next week to see what those are all about.

Until then, I have to go freshen someone's hay and water. Now that she has top billing, she's EXTRA demanding!!

Can you even imagine?
